Workshop Overview

Day one:

• Delegate expectations and specific objectives / problems – discussion
• Issues encountered and resolved, lessons learned – discussion
• Certification required and held
• Paperwork required before driving
• Vehicle inspection checklist
• Two and four wheel drive operation and when to use them
• Differential locking system operation and how to use it
• PTO points, take off speeds and safe operation
• Inspection of exterior of vehicle and report on faults identifying appropriate person / department
• Identification of daily / weekly checks
• Identification of common faults and their solutions
• Identification of what is normal / allowable
• In-cab familiarisation with instruments and controls including do’s and don’ts
• Off road route planning identifying hazards and risks (PowerPoint presentation and discussion)

Day two - on road driving:

• Safe and fuel efficient driving
• How to use the eight gears
• Applying the handbrake
• Using the air brake
• Driving a large vehicle
• Looking after the unimog
• Weight distribution and its effect
• Interacting with other road users large and small
• Acceleration and braking capability
• Instrumentation warning lights when driving
• On road driving assessment in varying traffic conditions

Day two - off road driving:

• Surveying the site, identifying hazards and associated risks
• Identifying safest and least ecologically damaging route to target
• Planning the route including escape routes and winch anchor points
• Tyre pressures and associated risks e.g. tyre comes off rim
• Selecting appropriate gear / drive combination
• Understanding lean, descent and climb angles
• Developing ‘forward thinking’
• Detecting the first signs of trouble
• How to reverse out
• Standard tow recovery
• Practical exercises
• Off road driving assessment

Alternative recoveries
• Waffle boards
• Ground anchors

Workshop details

£POA plus VAT
Two day workshop, small group size of eight maximum. Group exercises with feedback. Includes refreshments.
Delegates MUST be 18 years old and hold a valid UK driving licence.

Unimog familiarisation workshops

Two day foundation module

The practical and safe use of the Unimog (U100 and U400)

 

 

Who for?

These modules have been designed specifically for Unimog operators and aim to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to operate the Unimogs in a variety of conditions and on varying terrains.

Why do it?

This workshop represents an opportunity for even experienced operators to explore the capabilities of the Unimog in a safe and controlled environment. It also satisfies the client’s obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
